Bucs put exclamation mark on 2023 fall campaign
LAHAINA, S.C. (Oct. 28, 2023) – ETSU men's golf put the exclamation mark on its 2023 fall campaign.
The ninth-ranked Buccaneers won their second tournament of the season as the Blue & Gold rallied to capture the title at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate on Saturday from Ka'anapali Golf Course in Lahaina, Hawaii.
After going low on Friday to get within five shots of the lead, ETSU finished the comeback with a final round score of 13-under 271 en route to earning a share of the title with reigning tournament champion Oklahoma at 42-under-par 810.
The Bucs led the 20-team field in par-5 scoring (-31), while generating the third-most birdies (70) and second-most pars (166) during the week in paradise.
Liberty, who entered the day with the five-shot lead over the Bucs and Sooners, finished third at 39-under-par 813, while North Florida and San Jose State finished tied for fourth at 36-under-par 816.
ETSU ended the fall campaign with the win in Hawaii and at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, while finishing second at The Windon Memorial, third at the prestigious Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate and fourth at the season-opening Visit Knoxville Invitational.
This marks the first time the Bucs have won at least two fall tournaments since the historic 1995-96 season when ETSU won four en route to being ranked No. 1 in the country.
Mats Ege led the Bucs this week on the island as he placed second at 15-under-par 198. Ege carded a 3-under 68 on Saturday. For the tournament, Ege – who finished no worse than sixth in his five fall tournaments – tallied one eagle, 19 birdies, and 28 pars. To go with the five top-six finishes this fall, Ege also posted 15 straight rounds under par.
Remi Chartier capped off a productive fall campaign by leading the Blue & Gold on Saturday with a 4-under 67. Chartier, who won the JT Poston Invitational a month ago, finished the tournament tied for 13th at 9-under-par 204. On Saturday, Chartier registered four straight birdies from No. 6-9, while tallying six total on the afternoon.
Sophomore

Algot Kleen tied for 20th at 7-under-par 206. The Buccaneer duo each shot 3-under 68 on Saturday.
The Bucs open the spring campaign in February when they head to San Juan for the Puerto Rico Classic, which begins on Feb. 11.
