Bucs Conclude Day One of Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 15, 2023) – Playing in its final tournament of the fall season, the ETSU women's golf team concluded round one of the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate on Sunday afternoon at the Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville.
 
After one round of play, the Bucs sit 14th after shooting 22 over-par 306.
 
Going against a field that features 12 teams ranked in the top-75 nationally, Brianna Castaldi led the Blue & Gold on Sunday. Castaldi posted a 3-over 74 and is tied for 39th. Castaldi carded one birdie, 13 pars and four bogeys on her scorecard in round one. 
 
UCF, Maryland, and Ole Miss occupy the top three team positions. 
 
No. 16 UCF jumped out to a strong start as they fired a 13-under 271 to grab a 12-shot lead over No. 39 Maryland and a 13-stroke advantage over No. 8 Ole Miss. 
 
Nineteen total participants shot under par in round one; however, the top three positions are held by Molly Smith (UCF), Vania Simont (NC State) and Patrice Mackova (Maryland). Smith, occupying the first position finished the round at 5-under-par 66, while Simont and Mackova are tied for second at 4-under-par 67.
 
The Bucs are set to tee off for round two of competition on Monday morning. Chattanooga and five individuals will join the Bucs starting at 9:30 a.m. on the back nine of the course.
