SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Oct. 14, 2023) – ETSU's Jason Bowers won another gold medal, and yet again, broke a school record. 
 
For the second time this fall season, Bowers was the first runner to cross the finish line as the Buccaneer newcomer won the Upstate Invitational on Saturday at Roger Milliken Research Center in Spartanburg, S.C. 
 
Making his final tune up before the Southern Conference Championship at the end of the month, Bowers finished the 8K course with a new school record 8K cross country time of 23:10.2. Bowers, who won the race by 12 seconds over Charleston Southern's Micah Gilpatric, broke his previous school record mark by four seconds, which he set two weeks ago in Louisville. In addition to the school record, Bowers also set the new course record on Saturday. 
 
As a team, the Bucs finished fourth with 117 points – the highest finisher of the seven SoCon schools in the field. Charleston Southern won the team event with 32 points, while UNC Asheville (78 points) and Virginia Tech (95) capped off the podium finishes. 
 
Myles Stoots was the second Buccaneer to finish the race as he placed 12th overall in 24:47.7, while Xian Campbell was 21st in 25:03.7. 
 
ETSU gears up for the conference championship, which will be held Friday, Oct. 27 at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville, N.C.
