Dimitri Badra captures SoCon-record ninth career honor
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 5, 2022) – On Tuesday afternoon, Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) was named Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the fourth time this season and a SoCon-record ninth time in his career. Badra moves one SoCon award of teammate Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia), as he was awarded the weekly honor by the league office on Tuesday.
Badra went 2-0 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles action as the 68th-ranked Bucs (14-5, 4-0 SoCon) earned a pair of league wins over UNCG (6-1) and Chattanooga (5-2).
The redshirt-sophomore from Maracay, Venezuela, teamed with Francisco Lamas (Maracay, Venezuela) for a 6-3 win over Cooper Wyett and Hugh Knapp at No. 2 doubles in ETSU’s 6-1 win over UNCG on Friday before topping Nico Grewe 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
In a 5-2 win over Chattanooga two days later, Badra and Lamas dropped a 7-6 (8-6) decision to the Mocs’ Kerim Hyatt and Kaisei Kuroki at No. 2 doubles, but Badra bounced back with a 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win over Tomas Rodriguez at No. 1 singles.
ETSU, currently ranked 68th, will return to action on Saturday, April 9 when the Bucs play host to Mercer at 1 p.m. The match will be played at the Bristol Racquet Club and will serve as Senior Day for a trio of Bucs.
