Dimitri Badra claims second SoCon honor this season
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 1, 2022) – For the third time in the last four weeks, the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week honor is finding its way to Johnson City. Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) has been named the SoCon Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played Feb. 22-28, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Badra was a combined 3-1 last week, winning both of his doubles matches and going 1-1 in singles play. In Saturday’s 4-2 win at UAB, Badra paired up with Hugo Lobo (Toulon, France) for a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, helping the Bucs clinch the doubles point for the seventh straight match. Badra dropped a tough 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 1 singles.
The Bucs opened SoCon play at Samford on Sunday, with Badra going 2-0 in the 5-2 team win. The Maracay, Venezuela, native paired with Juan Jose Vargas (North Santander, Colombia) at No. 2 doubles for a 6-3 win. Badra picked up a three-set win at No. 1 singles, topping Jim Hendrikx 6-2, 5-7, 7-5.
ETSU (6-4, 1-0 SoCon) hosts Wofford (4-7, 0-0) on Friday at 2:30 p.m. before visiting UNC Asheville on Saturday at 2 p.m.
