    Assistant Coach

Michael Lockhart has been a member of the ETSU track and field coaching staff since January 2016. Lockhart works primarily with the horizontal jumpers on the men’s and women’s track and field teams.

Under Lockhart’s leadership, ETSU has seen consistent success in the horizontal jumps at the Southern Conference Championships. Between long jump and triple jump, Lockhart has coached six individual conference champions, 15 podium finishers and 43 conference finalists. In his debut season, he coached his first Southern Conference long jump champion, Kyra Atkins, who would go on to be a NCAA Regional qualifier in long jump the following year.

Lockhart also worked closely the 2018 Southern Conference Indoor Male Freshman of the Year, Karon Delince. He would then become the 2019 SoCon long jump champion outdoors with a NCAA Regional qualifying mark. With Lockhart’s assistance, ETSU gained another Southern Conference Freshman of the Year outdoors in 2019 with Mekayla Brown, a conference finalist in both jumps. In the 2020 indoor season, Brown was crowned the SoCon indoor triple jump champion. The USTFCCCA ranked ETSU women’s triple jumpers as the #9 event squad in the nation during the 2020 indoor season. The women’s long jump squad was ranked 31st in the nation in 2020 as well.

As a former Buccaneer from 2009 to 2013, Lockhart was long jumper and sprinter at East Tennessee State University where he helped elevate the ETSU men’s track and field team to conference championship titles in 2011 and 2012.
