CLERMONT, Fla. (Nov. 9, 2024) – Competing in nearly 100-degree heat, the ETSU triathlon team finished eighth in the Women's Collegiate Triathlon National Championship on Saturday afternoon in Florida.
Individually, the Bucs had three student-athletes finish among the top 50 in a field that included over 202. Competing in her final race as a Buc, senior
Sarah Plant led the way for ETSU placing 45
th with a time of 1:02:52. Plant's best part of the race was in the 20-kilometer bike portion. She clocked in at 30:23 on the bike, which matched Arizona State's Naomi Ruff's time, who eventually won the entire race.
Delaney Hammill was up next for the Bucs in 48
th place with a time of 1:03:23 and fellow Buc
Julia Visgueiro a spot behind clocking in at 1:03:26. Hammill paced the Bucs in the water (10:01), while Visgueiro was ETSU's fastest runner in the 5K run (19:28). Furthermore, Plant and Hammill both earned their elite licenses by being the top second and third amateurs in the race.
Rounding out the finishes for the Bucs were
Abby Church (52
nd – 1:03:36),
Taylor Walker (55
th – 1:03:43),
Emily Coonce (58
th – 1:04:10) and
Mia Remorca (64
th – 1:04:52). Church and Plant both competed for ETSU for the final time on Saturday.
In the team standings, the Bucs finished behind Arizona, Arizona State, Queens, TCU, Denver, San Francisco, and South Dakota.
