ETSU freshman finishes fourth in 58:12.3; Bucs finish third overall
HUDDLESTON, Va. (Oct. 14, 2023) – Led by freshman Josi Seerig, the ETSU women's triathlon team wrapped up competition at the 2023 East Regional Qualifier on Saturday at Smith Mountain Lake in Huddleston, Va.
Seerig, competing in her first regional qualifier, finished fourth overall with a time of 58:12.3.
In a race featuring a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5-kilometer run, Seerig generated the fourth-fastest times in the swim and run on Saturday. Seerig posted a time of 10:04 in the swim and 17:47 in the run.
Denver's Maira Carreau won the race with a time of 57:29.1.
ETSU's
Juliane Moellers and
Abby Church also turned in top-20 finishes. Moellers placed 17th with a mark of 1:00:28.9 and Church clocked in at 1:00:44.3. Moellers did her damage on the bike where she had the sixth-best time (28:39), while Church had the 10th-fastest run (18:28).
Overall, the field featured 117 competitors.
As a team, the Bucs earned a podium finish. ETSU placed third with 491 points, while Queens won the event with 560 points. Denver finished second with 540 points.

The Bucs now gear up for the Collegiate Championships which will be held Saturday, Nov. 11 in Tempe, Ariz.
