Thursday, January 26, 2012

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 26, 2012) – The ETSU men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete in Johnson City this weekend, hosting the 34th annual Niswonger Foundation Track and Field Invitational/KTC High School Invitational on Friday and Saturday inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center at the David E. Walker Track.

"We as a staff are thrilled to be able to host the Niswonger meet again this year,” ETSU assistant coach Eli Sunquist said. “It's a big production, but is well worth it for the athletes and fans alike.

“This meet is a great opportunity to showcase some of our very talented student-athletes to not only the ETSU community, but also to the local community. The amount of teams and spectators that come to Johnson City is great for the local hotels, restaurants and businesses who are able to provide for them.”

Over 60 collegiate teams and numerous high school teams will compete in 16 men’s and women’s events, including the 60m, 60m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 800m, 3000m, 5000m, distance medley relay, 4x4 relay, mile, high jump, long jump, triple jump, weight throw, shot put and pole vault.

Friday’s events begin at 10 a.m. with the prelims of the women’s 60m hurdles, along with the triple jump and weight throw finals. Day one ends at 9 p.m. with the high school boys 4x4 relay. Saturday picks up at 8 a.m. with the women’s 5000m, before the entire weekend is scheduled to conclude with the men’s 4x4 relay final at 6:35 p.m.

“We are looking forward to some breakout performances by our young team."
