Buccaneers sweep Field category of A-Sun’s weekly award

MACON, Ga. (Jan. 18, 2012) – After setting personal bests this past weekend at the Virginia Tech Invitational, freshman Jadon Short (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and sophomore local product Lexie Burley (Johnson City, Tenn.) were each named Atlantic Sun Field Athlete of the Week.

For Short, this is his first such award since joining the Bucs. Meanwhile, Burley is now a two-time Field Athlete of the Week having earned the honor the week of Jan. 26 of last season.

"I'm happy for both Lexie [Burley] and Jadon [Short] to do so well in their first meet back from break," ETSU assistant coach Eli Sunquist said. "It's nice to see some of our local athletes reap the rewards of working hard over the break."

Short broke his personal best in the long jump with a 7.40m leap which earned third place in the event and jolted Short into first among Atlantic Sun competitors. The jump also qualified the freshman for the USATF (United States of America Track and Field) Jr. National Championships, and ranks No. 14 in NCAA. Short also competed in the 60m, clocking in at 7.05 to rank fifth in the A-Sun.

Burley also excelled in the jumps in Blacksburg, setting a mark of 12.22m in the triple jump to surpass her personal best by a foot. The former Science Hill track and field star now leads the A-Sun by nearly two feet in the event and ranks No. 35 in the NCAA as well. Burley also competed in the long jump at the VT Invite, leaping 5.28m.

The Buccaneer track and field squad returns to action on Friday, Jan. 20, when it travels to Newport News, Va. for the CNU Captains Invitational and Multis.
