ETSU track and field gears up for Mideast Regional

Thursday, May 29, 2008

FAYETTVILLE, Ark. (May 29, 2008) - With a bid to next month's NCAA Track and Field Nationals on the line, a handful of ETSU athletes will look to showcase their strongest performances of the season this Friday when they compete in the 2008 Mideast Regional, hosted by the University of Arkansas at John McDonnell Field.

Competing for the Bucs this weekend is the women's 4x100-meter relay team, which consists of Jenny Knox (Connelly Springs, N.C.), Nae-Nae Bailey (Statesville, N.C.), Judy Johnson (Knoxville) and Christin Zink (Herndon, Va.). Along with the relay team, Knox will also compete in the 100m dash for the second consecutive year. Freshman Jasmine Ingram (Frederick, Md.) will be the alternate for the relay team in case anyone needs to be replaced.

The quartet of Lady Buccaneers set a regional qualifying mark twice this season with the most recent and fastest time coming at the 2008 Atlantic Sun Championships. This stellar group turned in a school-record mark of 45.24 at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex, located on the campus of Clemson University. ETSU's time is currently ranked 13th in the region and the Bucs need to place amongst the top eight in order to advance into Saturday's final.

About two hours after she runs a leg in the relay, Jenny Knox will look to advance into Saturday's final when she competes in the 100m. For the second straight year the Connelly Springs, N.C. native showcases her speed in the event at the Mideast Regional after she set a new school mark at the conference championships back on May 17. Knox took second in the 100 by finishing with an impressive time of 11.63. The mark currently positions her 17th in the regional, and the top eight participants advance to the finals.

The women's relay team hits the track at 3 p.m. and the 100m prelims take place at 4:50 p.m.
