Saturday, April 10, 2004

LEXINGTON, Va. (April 10, 2004) - In addition to the Sea Ray Relays, the ETSU track and field team also competed today against VMI in a duel meet. The Buccaneers were able to garner wins in several events during the competition. "VMI provided us with good competition," commented head coach David E. Walker. "It was a good meet and we will look to continue to improve upon our season marks. We hopefully have gathered some momentum to prepare ourselves for conference championships." On the women's side, senior Kristin Truman (Johnson City, Tenn.) set personal bests in many events including the javelin, shot put, and 100-meter hurdles. Truman won the javelin and the 100 meter hurdles and placed second in the shot put. Jenny Habbestad (Tampa, Fla.) had a solid 800 meter run and garnered the win for ETSU. Also running for ETSU was Buccaneer Nichola Cornish (Spartanburg, S.C.), who continues to improve upon her performance in the 200 meters. Her first-place finish helps to prove her ability to be a contender in the conference. Distance runner Christine Ward (Candler, N.C.) won the 1500m with a time of 4:55. Freshman Anna Marie Riccardi (Canfield, Ohio) also had a strong performance at today's meet winning the high jump. The men's side also had a strong showing in the meet. Senior David Cabbler (Roanoke, Va.) made a strong showing in the jumps with a mark of 6.71m for a second-place finish in the long jump. In the high jump, senior Jeremy Snoderly (Maryville, Tenn.) cleared a jump of 6'3". While Joshua Hicks (Riceville, Tenn.) and Greg Kenny (Kildare, Ireland) took home wins in the track events for ETSU in the 1500 meter and 3000 meter races respectively. Up next for the Buccaneers is the Vanderbilt Invitational on April 17.
