The Buccaneers (0-1) opened the season last weekend in Columbia, S.C., suffering a narrow 4-3 setback to SEC opponent South Carolina. Due to injury and illness, ETSU was forced to play the match with just three players.
Despite being shorthanded, the Bucs were able to win three points against the Gamecocks (2-0).
Senior Giulia Andreazza (Balneario Camboriu, Brazil), junior Jessica Brumit (Elizabethton, Tenn.), and sophomore Anna Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela) each picked up singles wins in the match.
Brumit and senior Salma Dahbi (Marrakech, Morocco) were each ranked 118th in the most recent ITA Women's Division-I Rankings.
SCOUTING APPALACHIAN STATE - Sunday, Jan. 26 at 9:30 a.m.
The Mountaineers will open the regular season play Saturday, Jan. 25 at Wake Forest before travelling to Johnson City to take on the Bucs.
Like ETSU, Appalachian State returns six players from last year's squad, including reigning Southern Conference Freshman of the Year Clare Cox. The Mountaineers finished the 2013 season with an overall record of 14-9, while going 6-4 in SoCon play.
The Bucs and Mountaineers' most recent match-up came last season, with ETSU earning a commanding 6-1 victory.
