Kolovou, McShane advance to doubles final after first day of UNCW-Landfall Invitational

Friday, September 07, 2012

WILMINGTON, N.C. (Sept. 7, 2012) – ETSU women’s tennis senior Antonia Kolovou (Larisa, Greece) and junior Larn McShane (Hobart Tasmania, Australia) won two doubles matches on Friday at the UNCW-Landfall Invitational, earning a spot in Saturday’s B Flight Final.

The ETSU newcomers are the No. 2 seed in their draw, and began the three-day invitational by defeating UNCW’s Hodges and French, 8-3, before taking out CSU’s Plachta and Das, 8-4, in the semifinals. The Buccaneer duo will take on UNCW’s Ritchie and Kharkevitch in Saturday’s final at 8:30 a.m.

“I thought this was a satisfying first day,” ETSU assistant coach Travis Sandlant said. “It was great to see Larn and Antonia through to the finals in their first appearance as a doubles pair. I think we will gain more confidence as the tournament goes on and get more matches under our belt.”

The Bucs were also in action on the singles courts, as redshirt freshman Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) earned another ETSU victory over a UNCW opponent, overcoming Cameron in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 6-0. All other first-round singles matches will take place Saturday.
