Women's tennis picks up several victories on opening day of Elon Fall Invitational

BURLINGTON, N.C. (Oct. 8, 2010) -
The ETSU women's tennis team picked up several victories on the opening day of the Elon Fall Invitational, Friday at the Burlington Tennis Center.
"We had a pretty solid day as we really played well in doubles," said ETSU assistant coach Travis Sandlant. "I was very pleased with the communication and the strategies involved. I am looking forward to another successful day tomorrow and see how we respond to better competition."
The doubles team of Paula Jaime (Madrid, Spain) and Karina Kedzo (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) started with a first round victory over the team of Tomaic/Matic from Radford 8-4, in the A-1 doubles flight. The duo will take on the Campbell team of Borislava Nikolova and Heather Robinson tomorrow at 8 a.m. Kedzo also earned a singles victory as she defeated Paige Oelke of Presbyterian 7-5, 7-5. She will face Cameron Richard of Liberty tomorrow at 9:45 a.m.
In the A-2 doubles flight, the Bucs got a victory from the team of Kelly Holtzhausen (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Tara Sheets (Gate City, Va.). The duo defeated Lisa Sutton and Dominik Wallaart in the opening round 8-5. They will take on the East Carolina team of Vogel/Collins tomorrow at 8 a.m.
The Bucs got a victory from the A-3 flight as Giulia Andreazza (Balneario Camboriu, Brazil) and Andra Voinea (Brasov, Romania) knocked off the Appalachian State team of Ansari/Dinh 8-4. Andreazza/Voinea will take on Lobel/Klintsevich of Liberty tomorrow at 8 a.m. Voinea also earned a singles victory as she defeated Beka Jenkins of Liberty 6-3, 6-2. She will take on Kim-Lea Dinh of Appalachian State tomorrow at 10:45 a.m. Andreazza knocked off Lindsay Krause of Presbyterian 6-2, 6-0, and will take on Jacqui McGuirk of UNC Asheville tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
Diana Navrostska (Lviv, Ukraine) earned a singles victory in the A-2 flight as she defeated Mia Drobnajk of Radford 6-0, 6-0. She will take on Annisha Domenech of Liberty in round two tomorrow at 9:45 a.m.
Competition will continue tomorrow morning at the Burlington Tennis Center.
