Jaime and Voinea lead women's tennis at Hokie Invitational
Sunday, October 03, 2010 BLACKSBURG, Va. (Oct. 2, 2010) - Junior Paula Jaime (Madrid, Spain) and senior Andra Voinea (Brasov, Romania) both won their semifinal matches at the Virginia Tech Hokie Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
In the B Flight singles draw, Jaime defeated Rebecca Shine of Louisville 6-1, 6-2. Jaime advances to the finals tomorrow as she will take on Giovanna Portiolli of Winthrop at 11 a.m.
Voinea also won her semifinal match as she knocked off Elizabeth Sims of Richmond 6-2, 6-4, in the D Flight draw. Voinea will take on Angie Sekely of UNC Wilmington in the finals tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Diana Navrostska (Lviv, Ukraine) won her first match against Julia Bruess of Winthrop 6-2, 6-2, in the consolation round of the C Flight, before falling in the next round.
Jessica Ratliff (Bristol, Tenn.) also picked up a victory in the consolation round of the G Flight as she knocked off Vanessa Fuleihan of East Carolina, 7-5, 6-3.
