Lady Bucs fall to No. 5 Georgia, 7-0

Friday, January 25, 2008

ATHENS, Ga. (January 25, 2008) - The ETSU women's tennis team fell to the fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs Friday evening at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Tennis Facility. The Lady Bucs fall to 0-1 on the year while Georgia improves to 1-0.

The Bulldogs took the early 1-0 advantage as they swept the doubles point. In the No. 3 position Vita Moskaliova (Minsk, Belarus) and Andra Voinea (Brasov, Romania) fell to Cameron Ellis and Adrienne Elsberry, 8-0 while Tara Byrne (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Tara Sheets (Gate City, Va.) fell 8-1 to the 36th-ranked duo of Monika Dancevic and Kelly Hyndman in the first slot. In the second position,  Olya Batsula (Minsk, Belarus) and Whitney Trotter (Guadalajara, Mexico) to No. 30 Yvette Hyndman and Naoko Ueshima, 8-0.

In singles, Naoko Ueshima defeated Whitney Trotter in the No. 4 slot, 6-0, 6-0 while Yvette Hyndman dropped Tara Sheets, 6-1, 6-2 in the third position to give Georgia the 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs then clinched the match when No. 45 Kelly Hyndman defeated Tara Byrne, 6-2, 6-3 in the first slot.

In the No. 5 position Cameron Ellis defeated Andra Voinea, 6-1, 6-1 while Olya Batsula fell in a hard-fought battle to Monika Dancevic, 6-3, 7-6(9-7) in the No. 2 position and Adrienne Elsberry downed Vita Moskaliova, 6-2, 6-1 to complete the sweep.

"We had to mix our lineups up a bit in doubles because Elena Volobueva (Barcelona, Spain) was unable to travel with us and after we got their Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) was too sick to play. So we had some lineups that we aren't used to and we made a lot of unforced errors because we've not been able to play much indoors like this," said head coach Steve Brooks. "They all played really well in singles and Olya had the longest match, she actually led in the second set. It was a good competitive match and we're just looking forward to getting back on the court and getting everybody healthy and having a full team again."

The Lady Bucs will hit the road again on February 8 as they travel to Richmond, Ky. to face Eastern Kentucky and Miami-Ohio before taking on No. 34 Kentucky on February 9.
