Stupak falls at ITA Southeast Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (October 14, 2006) - The ETSU women's tennis team concluded play at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships Saturday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center at the University of North Carolina.

In today's singles action, freshman Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) fell during the round of 32 to Duke's Elizabeth Plotkin, 6-2, 6-1. "Yevgeniya was up 2-1 in the first set but the fourth game of the match lasted a very long time almost 10 minutes or more. After she lost that game, she lost focus and changed the game she was playing," said Lady Bucs head coach Steve Brooks.

"Overall it was a very good tournament. We had five of our six players in the tournament and having Masha (Ilina) (Kyiv, Ukraine) qualify was just great. We had three players in the main draw, we earned a win over a ranked player and we got to face the No. 1 doubles team in the country, so it was really just a great tournament," said Brooks.

"We've got the next four weeks off so we'll be able to work on some individual stuff and hopefully when the rankings come out we'll be ranked," added Brooks.

After a four week break the Lady Bucs will return to action as they compete in the Kitty Harris Invitational hosted by the University of North Carolina November 10-12.
