Lady Bucs defeat Western Carolina, 7-0

CULLOWHEE, N.C. (March 26, 2006) - The ETSU women's tennis team defeated former conference foe, Western Carolina, 7-0 at the Catamount Athletic Complex. The Lady Bucs are now 17-3 on the year while the Catamounts fall to 3-13 with the loss.

 

In No. 1 doubles action, Masha Ilina (Kyiv, Ukraine) and Sylwia Ziolkowska (Warsaw, Poland) defeated Trish Hanson and Mariona Tilla Jane, 8-2, while Elena Volobueva (Barcelona, Spain) and Sandie Knight (Adamstown, Australia) defeated Susanna Sjokvist and Holly Stocks, 8-0, in the No. 2 spot. The Lady Bucs won the No. 3 spot by default.

 

In singles action, Olya Batsula (Minsk, Belarus) defeated Trish Hanson, 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot, while Elena Volobueva defeated Susanna Sjokvist, 7-6, (2), 6-1 in the No. 2 position. In No. 3 singles, senior Sandie Knight defeated Mariona Tilla Jane, 6-2, 6-1 and in the No. 4 position, Sylwia Ziolkowska defeated Holly Stocks, 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 5 slot, Vita Moskaliova (Minsk, Belarus) defeated Carley Abbott, 6-1, 6-0. ETSU then won the No. 6 spot by default.

 

ETSU's next match is scheduled for Tuesday, March 28 when the Lady Buccaneers travel to Rock Hill, S.C. to take on Winthrop at 2:30 p.m.
