JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 13, 2005) - The East Tennessee State women's tennis team extended it's winning streak to five with three wins at home on Sunday. With the wins against Virginia Intermont, UVa. Wise, and UNC Ashville, ETSU's record improves to 5-2.

The Bucs began the day with a 7-0 win over Virginia Intermont. The Bucs' doubles teams won all three matches 8-0 for the early lead. ETSU would then win each singles match in straight sets to finish 7-0.

The Bucs would then repeat that strong performance in their second match of the day against UVa. Wise with a 7-0 final.

In the third match of the day for the Bucs, ETSU would again win the doubles point. Sophomore Masha Ilina (Kyiv, Ukraine) at No. 1, freshman Olya Batsula (Minsk, Belarus) at No. 5, and juniors Sylwia Ziolkowska (Warsaw, Poland) at No. 3 and Sandie Knight (Adamstown, Australia) at No. 4 would pick up singles wins for the 5-0 final.

"It is good to have the opportunity to play local teams," stated head coach Steve Brooks. "The girls played well all day. I'm happy to see how mentally strong our team is and that they were still eager heading into our third match."

Up next for the Bucs is their first SoCon action as they travel to Elon, N.C. to face the Phoenix on Friday, Feb. 25 at 1:00 p.m.
