Women's Tennis Victorious Against Western Carolina, 6-1

Cullowhee, N.C. (March 21, 2004) - East Tennessee State handed the Lady Catamounts a 6-1 loss Sunday at Western Carolina. The Bucs improve their record to 11-6 overall, 2-0 in the SoCon, while the Catamounts drop to 4-7, 0-4. Rocio Perez and Erin Johnson teamed up to claim the No. 1 doubles match, 8-6, over Sylwia Ziolkowska (Warsaw, Poland) and Mariya Ilyina (Kyiv, Ukraine). However, the Buccaneer tandems of Courtney McInnis (Waterboro, Maine) and Jewel Aldea (Charleston, S.C.), and Gemma Halim (Jakarta, Indonesia) and Jessica Irey (Clewiscon, Fla.) claimed the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches, respectively, to pick up the first point in the match. In singles action East Tennessee State took five-of-six matches. Wins for the Buccaneers came from Ziolkowska at No. 2 (7-5, 6-4), Halim at No. 3 (6-0, 6-1), Irey at No. 4 (6-1, 6-2), Ilyina at No. 5 (6-3, 6-3), and Arriaran at No. 6 (6-0, 6-1). The lone Catamount win came from the number one player Perez, who defeated McInnis, 6-3, 6-3, to win the match.
