Choo/Gerbasi ousted by Florida duo, fall season comes to a close
SARASOTA, Fla. (Nov. 10, 2012) – ETSU women’s tennis freshmen Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) and Anna Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela) saw their doubles run come to an end in the semifinals on Saturday at the Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic, falling to Florida’s Alexandra Cercone and Brianna Morgan.
After defeating the ITA’s 14th-ranked doubles team from Oklahoma State in Friday’s quarterfinals, Choo and Gerbasi began the day two matches away from taking the doubles title. Unfortunately, the Gator duo was too much and shot down the Bucs, 8-5.
Gerbasi was also in action in singles, dropping a match to Caroline Wagner of Memphis, 6-1, 6-1.
“This was, by far, our toughest test of the year,” ETSU assistant coach Travis Sandlant said. “Although we were not as successful as we would have liked in singles, I feel we are at a good place with our doubles teams.
“We have had a great fall as a whole, but now we are going to shut down our tennis and work a lot harder on becoming faster and stronger athletes. I look forward to an exciting spring season.”
