Lady Bucs in search of program’s best eight-game record

FARMVILLE, Va. (Sept. 13, 2012) – The ETSU women’s soccer team will look to secure its best record through eight games in program history on Friday, as it travels to the Athletics Complex in Farmville, Va. to take on Longwood at 2 p.m.

In what will be its final non-conference game, ETSU (6-1-0) will also be looking to surpass the school mark for wins outside the conference. The 2000 Lady Buccaneers played nine non-conference games, posting a mark of 6-3-0.

Junior forward Ramey Kerns (Kings Mountain, N.C.) and freshman midfielder Sarah Zadrazil (St. Gilgen, Austria) have led the Lady Buccaneer attack through the first seven games. Kerns has scored nine goals to lead the team and Atlantic Sun Conference, while also ranking tied for third nationally in both total goals and points. Her 1.29 goals per game and 3.00 points per game rank tied for second in the country. The catalyst for the majority of those goals has been Zadrazil, who leads the nation in both assists and assists per game. The Austrian and Stephen F. Austin’s Kylie Louw are the only two in Division I women’s soccer to reach seven assists this year.

ETSU’s Last Outing

Last weekend, ETSU earned a home sweep by defeating Western Carolina and Winthrop. Kerns netted ETSU’s 10th hat trick in program history to defeat the Catamounts, 3-2, and sparked an ETSU comeback from two goals down on Sunday to help defeat the Eagles, 4-2. Zadrazil scored the last two Lady Buccaneer goals, putting ETSU ahead five minutes before halftime and sealing the win with an insurance goal in the late stages.

For the weekend, Kerns accumulated 10 points en route to being named both Atlantic Sun and Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week.

Scouting the Lancers

Longwood (4-2-0) is returning home from a 2-1-0 road trip, which included wins again Howard and UMBC. The Lancers began the three-game swing Aug. 27 in the defeat of How ard, but suffered a setback in their next outing with a, 3-0, loss to Appalachian State. Friday’s meeting with ETSU will be Longwood’s first home game since defeating Richmond, 2-1, in double-overtime back on Aug. 24. LU is 2-1-0 at home this season.

Lindsey Ottavio enters Friday as Longwood’s leading goal scorer, having found the back of the net twice off 10 shots. Longwood’s other four goals have come from four different Lancers, as opponents are holding LU to 1.00 goals per game on the season.

The Series

ETSU and Longwood have met just one other time, with the Lady Bucs pulling out a thrilling double-overtime victory on Sept. 2 of last year. Former Lady Buc Jessica Hiltenbrand (Bartlett, Tenn.) lined up for a free kick from more than 30 yards out with less than two minutes to play, and managed to bounce her shot through the box and into the back of the net for the, 2-1, victory at Summers-Taylor Stadiium. The win also began ETSU’s current 12-game home unbeaten streak.
