JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 18, 2010) - Freshman Ramey Kerns' (Kings Mountain, N.C.) two goal effort was the difference Saturday afternoon as the ETSU women's soccer team dropped Campbell 2-0 to open Atlantic Sun conference play at Summers-Taylor Stadium.

"I give a lot of credit to our defense today," said head coach Heather Henson. "They stepped up and really played well getting a shutout today. It's great to start off the conference season 1-0. The team is really starting to link up well, and it showed with our effort today."

The Bucs (5-2-1, 1-0-0 A-Sun) dominated the game in shots 20-6 with five coming on goal. ETSU also had a 4-3 advantage in corners.

Junior Megan Masch (Virginia Beach, Va.) picked up her second shutout of the season only having to make one save in the match.

In the 13th minute, freshman Samantha Kron (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) made a big stop for the Bucs as she saved a shot by Olga Ekblom on an open net to keep the game scoreless.

The game did not remain scoreless for much longer though as Kerns knocked the rebound from a Jessica Huntington (Newport News, Va.) shot into the back of the net to give ETSU a 1-0 lead.

Kerns notched her second goal of the contest in the 53rd minute as senior Kelly Brinkman (Clearwater, Fla.) played a great ball forward to Kerns for a breakaway. Kerns then slotted a ball past the Campbell keeper to increase the Buccaneer advantage to 2-0.

The Bucs looked to have added another goal in the 84th minute, but a Genna Petersen (Loveland, Ohio) just missed going in as it hit the crossbar and deflected away from the goal.

Campbell efforted its best chance in the 89th minute as Masch make an incredible leaping save on a Cissy Nitz shot to preserve the shutout and make the final 2-0.

ETSU is back in action on Friday at 7 p.m. as the Bucs host Liscomb at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
