JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (September 10, 2010) - An early goal by Temple's Stephanie Ferretti was the difference as the ETSU women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Owls Friday night at Summers-Taylor Stadium in the ETSU Soccer Invitational presented by DoubleTree Hotel.

"Despite the outcome, I am proud of the intensity and effort of the team tonight," said head coach Heather Henson. "The girls played hard for 90 minutes against a very well coached Temple team. We need to get better at finishing our chances, and if we can do that we can be a very good team."

The Bucs (3-2-1) were outshot 8-7 in the match by Temple (3-3-0), but had a 4-2 lead in corners.

The Owls jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the 11th minute as Allicia Yurkovic and Niki Conn combined to find Ferretti open in the penalty area as she fired a shot past ETSU keeper Megan Masch (Virginia Beach, Va.) into the back of the net.

ETSU created some chances in the second half as the Bucs put a lot of pressure on the Temple back line, but the Owls defense played tough keeping the Buccaneers off of the board.

The Bucs are back in action Sunday at 3:30 p.m. as they host Winthrop to close out the ETSU Invitational Tournament presented by Double Tree Hotel.

Miami (OH) defeated Winthrop in the early match 2-0 as the RedHawks were outshot by the Eagles 13-12 on the day.

Miami broke into the scoring column early as Katy Dolesh headed a cross from Jess Kodiak past the Eagle keeper Sarah Schippers in the 7th minute to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead.

In the 30th minute Kodiak increased the MU advantage to 2-0 as Sarah Dessfelt and Courtney Clarke played a ball through to Kodiak as she played a ball on the ground past Schippers for the goal.

Winthrop missed an opportunity to cut into the RedHawk lead in the 61st minute as Kris Gasparovic made an incredible save on a Courtney Durbin penalty kick.
