Monday, December 07, 2009

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 7, 2009) - For the fourth time since 2002 the ETSU women's soccer team earned national academic recognition, as the Bucs were named one of the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Assocation of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award winners Monday.

The Bucs - who led all Atlantic Sun Conference teams with a 3.43 team GPA -was one of seven league members to earn the award.

Individually. ETSU placed 21 players on the 2008-09 A-Sun All-Academic team , while the Bucs had eight girls earn at least one semester or more on ETSU's Dean's List (3.70 GPA or higher).

"I'm very proud of our players for earning this award," said head coach Heather Henson. "They have challenged themselves inside the classroom to be the very best. We want every player on our team to be a true student-athelte. It has been our commitment from the first day each girl steps on campus for our players to know that they are here to earn their degree. Bob Baker and the entire academic support staff does an outstanding job assisting and guiding our players towards their academic goals."
