ETSU women's soccer falls to Belmont, 4-1

Friday, October 05, 2007

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 5, 2007) - The ETSU women's soccer team fell to Belmont in a grueling, 4-1 match at the Whitten Soccer Complex on Friday afternoon. The Bucs fall to 4-4-2 overall and 0-3-0 in A-Sun play while the Bruins improve to 9-1-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the A-Sun.

In the first half the two teams battled for the early lead and traded shots back and forth. With under a minute left in the half, Annie Musacchio found the back of the net on her own corner kick to give the Bruins the 1-0 advantage before halftime.

During the second period, Belmont extended their lead to 3-0 as Musacchio found the back of the net for the second time as her shot bounced off the crossbar and behind junior goalkeeper Erin Bilyeu (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) in the 51st minute while Ivy Bentley scored two minutes later. The Bruins would net their final goal in the 58th minute Jayme Trocino scored on the rebound off the crossbar.

Junior transfer Katie Green (Knoxville, Tenn.) netted the lone goal for the Bucs at the 60:10 mark.

"We came out ready to play at the start of the whistle. This time our lapse of concentration was in the middle of our game - at the end of the first period and at the beginning of the second period. At the beginning of the game we did a good job of winning the 50/50 balls but Belmont did a wonderful job of playing within their system, which was to slow us down," said head coach Heather Henson. " We fell into their game plan and in the attacking third we didn't go with speed. We started to lose 50/50 balls as the second half progressed and we began to shy off and we allowed Belmont to build confidence and they stepped it up to the next level.

Senior Katie O'Bryan (Hampton, Va.) led the Bucs with three shots, while Green and Danielle Bayles (Atlanta) each contributed one.

The Bucs will continue their stay in Nashville as they take on the Lipscomb Bisons (2-7-1, 0-1-1 A-Sun) on Sunday, October 7. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. CST.
