JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (September 9, 2005) - The ETSU women's soccer team won its second game in-a-row in a 2-1 win over Radford in the first home game of the season, Friday night at Liberty Bell soccer complex.  Junior Rebecca Murray (Franklin, Tenn.) scored the game-winning goal for the Lady Bucs with just eight minutes to play, lifting her team to victory.  ETSU now stands at 2-2-0 on the season.

           

ETSU was scoreless during the first half while allowing Radford to score its only goal of the evening at the 25:14 mark on a Megan Horan goal.  The Lady Bucs came out in the second half ready to score.  Senior Meghan Morris (Bowie, Md.) got the Lady Bucs on the board off an Erin Ashton (New Bern, N.C.) corner kick to tie the score 1-1.  Then at the 81:35 mark, just seconds after entering the game, Murray drove a shot from 20 yards out on the right wing and the ball bounced off the outstretched arms of Radford goalie Tara Oleartchick and reached the back of the net to give ETSU the lead for good.

           

 "I told Becca to go in and make something happen and she did," said head women's soccer coach Heather Henson.  "This was a great home opener and a great game for our fans."

           

Radford took a 9-4 shooting advantage into the half.  ETSU controlled the game offensively in the second half, outshooting Radford, 9-4. 

           

"The first 25 minutes we had good defensive pressure and the last 20 we didn't," Henson said.  "Radford is good midfield so we adjusted our defensive pressure at the half and kept were patient and it paid off."

           

The Lady Bucs return to action on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against Jacksonville State at the Liberty Bell Soccer Complex.
