LEXINGTON, Va. (Aug. 22, 2004) - ETSU forwards Erin Ashton (New Bern, N.C.) and Rebecca Murray (Franklin, Tenn.) each scored two goals and notched two assists in an 8-0 exhibition win over VMI Sunday afternoon at Patchin Field. Ashton tallied the first goal of the contest only four minutes in, and then assisted on the next two goals to bring the score to 3-0 after the first of three 30-minute periods. Murray took over in the second period, scoring the first goal of the stanza and assisting on the next two goals as the Bucs had a 6-0 advantage after 60 minutes of play. To cap off the scoring, Murray scored the first goal of the third period on an assist from Erin Ferris (Columbus, Ohio), while Kery Dusch (Virginia Beach, Va.) tallied the final goal of the game with only eight minutes remaining, bringing the final score to 8-0. VMI freshman goalkeeper Jessica Rheinlander made eight saves in the contest, including one on a penalty kick in the second period. After a VMI foul in the penalty box, Rheinlander dove to her left to deny Ashton's penalty kick attempt just three minutes into the second period. ETSU's Sarah Prendergast (Palm Bay, Fla.) needed to make only two saves to preserve the shutout in both team's first exhibition match of the season. The Buccaneers open up the regular season when they host the Winthrop Eagles next Sunday, August 29. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. at Liberty Bell Field. 1 2 3 F ETSU 3 3 2 8 VMI 0 0 0 0 Scoring Summary ETSU- Erin Ashton (goal); unassisted, 3:00 ETSU- Kerri Burke (goal); Erin Ashton (assist), 5:00 ETSU- Emily Fulcher (goal); Erin Ashton (assist), 7:00 ETSU- Rebecca Murray (goal); Adrian Mobley (assist); 32:00 ETSU- Erin Ashton (goal); Rebecca Murray (assist); 38:00 ETSU- Adrian Mobley (goal); Rebecca Murray (assist); 55:00 ETSU- Rebecca Murray (goal); Erin Farris (assist); 71:00 ETSU- Kery Dusch (goal); Katie O'Bryan (assist); 82:00 Shots on Goal ETSU 16, VMI 2 Corner Kicks ETSU 3, VMI 0 Saves VMI 8, ETSU 2 Fouls ETSU 11, VMI 11
