Elon, N.C. (Oct. 16, 2004) - The East Tennessee State University women's soccer team was dealt a tough 1-0 loss by SoCon opponent Elon at Rudd Field on Sunday afternoon. The loss ends a two-game SoCon winning streak and a three-game shutout streak and puts the Bucs at 5-5-3 overall and 2-2-3 in league play, while the Eagles are lifted to 2-10-1 and 1-5-1 with the win.

Following an evenly played first half that ended scoreless, the Phoenix took the lead on a score from Monica Houseworth who headed the ball past the keeper off a cross from Tina Longo. The Elon goal came at 49:24.

The Phoenix defense then clamped down and held off ETSU's offensive attempts for the remainder of the game.

Sarah Prendergast (Palm Bay, Fla.) corralled four saves for ETSU. Kara Zagol was in net for Elon and earned the shutout for Elon.

ETSU now returns for a three-game home stretch beginning this Thursday when they will host UNC Greensboro at 7:00 p.m. at Liberty Bell Field.
