ETSU Women's Soccer Holds Girls Inc. Soccer Clinic
Monday, February 23, 2004JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 23, 2004) - East Tennessee State University's women's soccer team held a soccer clinic in conjunction with Girls Inc. on Feb. 19. Approximately 50 young girls participated in the event. "We really enjoyed working with Girls Inc. to conduct a soccer clinic for all the girls who are a part of Girls Inc.," Buccaneer coach Heather Henson said. "We met some wonderful girls like Brooklyn, who played all different types of sports." "The excitement and questions of the girls reminds all of us who train and compete, to get better for the next game along with what is great about the sport of soccer. It is about teamwork, friends, and relationships. I can only hope that the girls at Girls Inc. had as much fun working with us as we did working with them." The Buccaneers spoke with their young fans about athletics and academics and then worked with the girls to develop the basic fundamentals of soccer: dribbling, passing, heading, juggling and playing the game. After the clinic the girls were able to talk with and get autographs from the Buccaneers. Henson commented, "We know the community does a lot for us and we want to repay them every chance we get. We remember that person who was a positive role model in soccer and we hope we can be that for a youth player in Johnson City. We are thankful for the opportunity to give back to the grassroots of soccer."
