Ashton Scores Twice as Buccaneers Down Carson-Newman

Jefferson City, Tenn. (October 4, 2002) - East Tennessee State forward Erin Ashton (New Bern. N.C.) scored two goals and added an assist to lead her team to a 3-1 win over the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles Friday at McCown Field. Jennifer Bock (Stevensville, Mich.) gave the Lady Eagles the lead with a penalty kick in the 37th minute. Ashton scored her first goal of the contest at the 41:12 mark of the first half to tie the score at 1-1. The two teams battled for most of the second half before the Bucs scored two goals in the final six minutes of the match. Ashton scored on a penalty kick in the 84th minute and later fed Lisa Cain (Simpsonville, S.C.) in the 86th minute to seal the victory. ETSU improves to 3-6-1 overall 1-3-1 in conference play. Carson-Newman falls to 7-4. The Buccaneers will return to action Friday, October 11, as they host South Carolina State at 5:00.
