JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 22, 2013) – Despite recording 19 shots, including three attempts that struck the crossbar, the ETSU women’s soccer team was unable to find the scoring column Sunday afternoon, suffering a narrow 1-0 setback to Tennessee Tech in the Buccaneers’ final non-conference game of the season. The loss was ETSU’s (4-4-1) first home defeat of the year and snapped a four-match unbeaten streak.

The Golden Eagles (2-6-0) took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Shannon Rountree in the game’s third minute and were able to maintain the advantage despite ETSU creating several solid scoring opportunities.

A pair of ETSU scoring chances came in the match’s 21st minute when Molly Vaughn (Nashville, Tenn.) and Kristi Davis (Edmond, Okla.) fired shots that deflected off the crossbar.

Both teams registered 19 shots on the day.

The loss was the first of the year for freshman goalkeeper Anna Yancey (Rosemark, Tenn.), who recorded six saves on the day.
