JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 20, 2012) – Below are the ETSU athletic events for the week of August 20-26.
This week: The Bucs open their 2012 season on Friday, Aug. 24 when ETSU travels to Boone, N.C. to face Appalachian State. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Appalachian Soccer Stadium. Live stats of the match will be available through GoASU.com.
Last week: ETSU wrapped up its preseason slate with a 2-0 victory over College of Charleston on Saturday night at Summers-Taylor Stadium. Senior Theo Yang (Lilburn, Ga.) put the Blue and Gold on the board with a goal in the 51st minute, while red-shirt freshman Emmaunel Wilson (Memphis, Tenn.) capped off the scoring when he found the back of the net in the 69th minute. Meanwhile, junior goalkeeper Ronnie Hreha (Asheville, N.C.) made three saves in 90 minutes of action. On Tuesday, ETSU opened the exhibition season with a 2-1 setback to Milligan as David Geno (Kingsport, Tenn.) scored the lone goal for the Bucs; however, the Buffs answered with two second-half goals to capture the victory.
This week: The Lady Bucs (2-0-0) look to keep their perfect record intact when ETSU returns home for the first time in 2012 to take on Presbyterian Friday (7 p.m.) and Radford Sunday (1 p.m.) at Summers-Taylor Stadium. Last Week: ETSU opened the 2012 slate in fine fashion as the Blue and Gold defeated Tennessee Tech (2-0) on Friday afternoon in Cookeville, while senior Morgan Thomas (Maryville, Tenn.) fired home the golden goal in the 2-1 double overtime win at UNC Asheville Sunday. Freshman Sarah Zadrazil (St. Gilgen, Austria) racked up three points against TTU as she scored the Bucs’ first goal of the season as time expired in the first half to put the Lady Bucs in front, and assisted sophomore Kristi Davis (Edmond, Okla.) with the second half insurance goal. Fellow freshman Sierra Campbell (Thompson’s Station, Tenn.) didn’t allow a goal in her first collegiate regular season match, while she also registered 14 saves off 26 shots by UNC Asheville on Sunday.
This week: After holding two weeks of preseason practice, the ETSU volleyball team will finally hit the court for the first time in 2012 when the Bucs travel to Columbia, S.C. for the Gamecock Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Bucs open the season with UNC Asheville at 10 a.m. on Friday, before taking on Temple at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Blue and Gold face Akron (12:30 p.m.) and host South Carolina (3 p.m.).
