September 8, 2010
We started off the week with our very first day of college. It was new and exciting, and I'm sure for some of us very nerve racking. Not only did we have regular season games on top of practice but now we finally added school into the mix. Our week was filled with soccer practices, games, and an addition of five new classes that we new absolutely nothing about. We knew we were going to have a long week ahead of us.
As Thursday rolled around the corner we were mentally and physically preparing ourselves for our game versus King College. It was first game that the ETSU women's soccer team would be playing under the new lights at Summers-Taylor stadium. I can tell you it was very exciting for the freshman, but I can't imagine what it was like as an upper classman who had been dreaming playing under the lights and seeing it become a reality. Before we knew it, it was game time. Freshman Kayla White scored her first goal of the season off of a Ramey Kerns pass in the 31st minute to put is up 1-0 at half time. We were able to get numerous shots in the first half testing the Tornado goalkeeper. Not too long after starting the second half senior Kelly Brinkman played a fantastic through ball to Senior Terri Miller who nailed the ball into the back of the net. As the game finished we ended up outshooting King College 29-0. It was the most shots we had gotten in any game so far this season! We were happy to come out with yet another win and still be undefeated.
Before we knew it, it was Sunday, and yet another game day. We traveled to Francis Marion the day before because the bus ride was so long. When we arrived we had dinner at Fatz café to get in a good meal the night before our game. Then as we got back to the hotel we thought it would be a good idea to do some team bonding before we all went to bed, so we played a game called Guesstures. The game is played by acting out a certain word or idea this is given to you on a card, while your teammates try and guess what it is. The hour and a half was filled with lots and lots of laughter along with many jokes but, it was a good team bonding activity to have before our game. The next morning we set off to Cracker Barrel for our pre-game brunch! Let's just say our team loves to eat breakfast. Shortly after, we arrived at the field and it was time to play. Before we knew it we were down 2-0 at half time. But it did not take us too long to get back into it, because a near 30 seconds at the start of the second half Lindsay Bickel hooked up with freshman Ramey Kerns who hit a 40-yard shot which nailed the upper 90 of the goal. This altered the Francis Marion lead by one goal. Unfortunately we were not able to get a second goal to tie the game but, we had a much more successful second half. Although our undefeated season had come to an end we are determined to start a new winning streak starting this Friday, September 10 at 7 p.m. against Temple, and this Sunday, September 12 at 3:30 p.m. versus Winthrop, both at Summers-Taylor Stadium. Come out and watch us play in the ETSU Invitational Presented by DoubleTree Hotel! GO BUCS!
Until next time,
