"We are so proud to have strong supporters like Rab and Nita Summers, and their gift to this program will help take both our men's and women's soccer programs to the next level," said ETSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dave Mullins. "This is a perfect example of how public/private cooperatives can help build our program and make our new athletic facilities a reality. It started with our state-of-the-art golf practice facility, and it continues with this gift from the Summers family."
Rab Summers said he and his family were proud to continue their relationship with ETSU athletics.
"We've always been impressed with all the hard work everyone involved in ETSU athletics puts forth - from the administration to the coaches to the student-athletes," said Summers, president of Summers-Taylor, Inc. "We're proud to support that hard work, and we hope this helps continue the capital campaign project."
The "Pathway to Excellence Athletic Campaign" calls for new athletic facilities for all of ETSU's 16 varsity sports, and is part of the total university's "Reaching Higher" capital campaign of over $200 million. Following the soccer facility, plans are underway for a new softball complex, baseball stadium, outdoor track, tennis facility and basketball arena.
