ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 10, 2014) – Senior Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) matched her career low with a 5-under-par 67 during second round play Monday in the UCF Challenge at the Eagle Creek Golf Club, helping the 51st-ranked ETSU women’s golf team stay in contention for the team title.

The Buccaneers – who stand at 2-under-par 574 as a squad – are currently fourth on the leaderboard, just one stroke out of third place and seven back of the top spot, which is currently held by host and 24th-ranked UCF. Individually, Evans moved into a tie for fourth place, and is just three strokes off the pace of UCF’s Fanny Cnops, who holds the lead at 7-under 137 for the tournament.

“Sian played such a great bogey-free round today, and she is such a solid player,” said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. “We’re looking forward to an exciting final semester for her.

“The ladies have come to play this week. Today, we faced more challenges and had to fight a little more to score, and the girls did that the whole 18 holes.”

As a team, the Bucs are just one stroke back of No. 22 Iowa State, and seven back of No. 33 Miami for second place. ETSU is currently ahead of five teams ranked above them nationally, which includes No. 21 Kentucky, No. 29 Tulane, No. 43 SMU and No. 45 Wisconsin.

Evans is joined in the Top 10 individually by junior Gabriella Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany), who finished the day at 2-under-par 142 for the tournament, and is currently tied for ninth. Meanwhile, three other Bucs tied for the second-best rounds of the day, as sophomore Vivienne Chin (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia), freshman Linda Dobele (Ogre, Latvia), and Lourdes Lopez (Cadiz, Spain) all carded scores of 1-over-par 73 on Monday.
