AUGUSTA, Ga. (March 17, 2013) – Finishing ahead of two teams ranked in the nation’s Top 50, the ETSU women’s golf team wrapped up an eighth place effort following Sunday’s third and final round of action in the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate at the Forest Hills Golf Club.

Junior Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) led the way for the Buccaneers on the final day of action, carding a team-best round of 4-over-par 76 and finishing tied for 31st on the individual leaderboard. Other ETSU results included a tie for 34th by sophomore Gabriella Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany), a tie for 43rd by senior Chloe Garner (Somerset West, South Africa), and a tie for 48th by junior Lourdes Lopez (Cadiz, Spain).

“It was a great tournament for the ladies, especially beating ranked teams like (Texas-San Antonio) and Kentucky,” ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton said. “I was really proud of their play and I think now we’re even more ready to compete again against a similar field in Mississippi.”

The Bucs finished in front of No. 48 UTSA and No. 34 Kentucky, while four of the seven teams placing ahead of ETSU are currently ranked 26th or higher nationally.

No. 16 Purdue brought home the team title by just one stroke over No. 9 Vanderbilt, while Notre Dame’s Ashley Armstrong bested the field by two strokes to capture the individual championship.

ETSU will return to action April 5 at the Bancorp South Rebel Intercollegiate in Oxford, Miss. This will be the Bucs final regular season tournament before competing in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships, which begin on April 15 in Jekyll Island, S.C.
