GREENSBORO, N.C. (Oct. 1, 2012) – Fresh off beating No. 2 UCLA in last week’s Golfweek Conference Challenge, the ETSU women’s golf team kept up the momentum during first and second round play in the UNCG Starmount Forest Classic Monday at the Starmount Country Club.

Led by juniors Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) and Lourdes Lopez (Cadiz, Spain), the Buccaneers placed four players in the top eight on the individual leaderboard and currently hold an eight-stroke lead in the team competition heading into third and final round play on Tuesday. The Bucs finished the day at 2-over-par 570 as a team, and lead squads such as No. 17 Campbell, No. 20 East Carolina and Maryland.

Evans and Lopez are third and fourth, respectively, with Evans – who currently sits at 1-under-par 141 for the event – holding a one-stroke edge over her teammate. Meanwhile, sophomore Gabrielle Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany) and senior Chloe Garner (Somerset West, South Africa) both carded a score of 146 by the day’s end and are both tied for eighth.

Wahl had the most impressive single round of the day, posting a season-best score of 4-under-par 68 during the day’s second round of play. Meanwhile, East Carolina’s F. Gustafsson Spang leads the individual competition after wrapping up the first day with a remarkable score of 8-under 136 (66-70).

In addition to her ETSU teammates, junior Larissa Steinfeldt (Eschweiler, Germany) also played well on Monday, finishing the day tied for 23rd. In all, the Bucs carded seven of 10 total rounds at 72 or lower.
