ETSU women still hold two-stroke lead at Lady Paladin

Saturday, October 29, 2011

GREENVILLE, S.C. (Oct. 29, 2011) – Despite tough weather conditions for  a second straight day, the ETSU women’s golf team maintained its position atop the leaderboard following second round play Saturday in the Lady Paladin Invitational at the Furman University Golf Course.

The Buccaneers will lead Georgia State by two strokes as they enter third and final round action on Sunday. Meanwhile, ETSU sophomore Sian Evans (Gillingham, England), who began the day as the event’s individual leader, finished Saturday’s action tied for fourth after firing a 7-over-par 79. She is currently just three strokes back of leader Charlotte Lorentzen of Georgia State.

“The conditions were tough again today and that made the course difficult to play,” said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. “The girls hung in there and played hard though. They are in a great state mentally. We look forward to the challenge of playing the course tomorrow.”

Along with Evans, other ETSU results included senior Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) tying for 8th, while junior Chloe Garner (Somerset West, South Africa) is tied for 13th, after posting a team-best score of 78 on Saturday. Sophomore Larissa Steinfeldt (Eschweiler, Germany) is also playing well and tied for 20th.

The Bucs will return for third and final round action on Sunday, and fans can watch live scoring via Golfstat.com. For more on ETSU women’s golf, including daily updates on the day’s play, visit ETSUBucs.com and click on the women’s golf link.
