ETSU women finish third, Muehl second at Barefoot

Wednesday, March 09, 2011

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C (March 8, 2011) - Senior Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) wrapped up her second straight impressive showing and junior Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) posted a team-best round of 1-under-par 71, as the ETSU women's golf team wrapped up play in the Barefoot at the Beach Invitational Tuesday with a third-place team effort at the Davis Love Course at the Barefoot Resort.

Muehl, who carded a two-over 74 and finished the tournament at 1-over-par 217, finished second on the individual leaderboard as East Carolina's Fanny Wolte bested her by three strokes. As a team, the Buccaneers finished alone in third place, behind winning team East Carolina and second place Wisconsin.

ETSU finished ahead of teams such as host College of Charleston, Georgetown, Appalachian State, Marshall, Old Dominion, and Illinois State.

"I was very happy with our team effort this week," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. "We played consistent throughout most of our lineup, and posted a very nice finish. Nina just continues to play well, and Mayte really looked good out there today. And our freshmen continue to provide us with quality rounds."

Indeed, along with Muehl and Vizcarrondo, freshmen Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) and Larissa Steinfeldt (Eschweiller, Germany) were equally impressive. Evans posted the team's second best individual showing, as she tied for 14th, while both Steinfeldt and Vizcarrondo tied for 16th.

The Bucs will return to action March 21st in the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia State in Atlanta, Ga.
