Muehl leads women's golf team on final day of the Mercedes-Benz Championship

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 9, 2010) -
ETSU senior Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) fired a season-low round of 68 to lead the Bucs on the final day of the Mercedes-Benz Championship on Sunday.
 
Muehl recorded five birdies and just a single bogey during her final round as she finished the event tied for 38th at 9-over. Muehl moved up 25 spots on the leaderboard following the final round as she started the day tied for 63rd.
 
Freshman Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) was the top finisher for the Bucs as she was consistent throughout the weekend. Evans fired a final round even-par 72 to finish the tournament tied for ninth at even-par overall. Only 12 players in the 83-player field finished the tournament at even-par or better.
 
The Bucs fired their best round of the tournament on Sunday as they finished with a final round 298. They finished the event in 14th place (+52) at the 6,302-yard, par-72 Holston Hills Country Club layout.
 
Tennessee won the team title as they led the tournament from start to finish. They were the only team in the 15-team field to finish under par. The Lady Vols completed the tournament at 15-under par. Arkansas (+5) came in second, while Kent State (+10) followed in third.
 
Erica Popson of Tennessee earned the individual title after defeating Natalie Gleadall of Ole Miss in a sudden death playoff as both finished the tournament at 9-under par. Martina Gavier of Kent State finished just a shot back at 8-under.
 
Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) finished in 72nd place, Larissa Steinfeldt (Eschweiler, Germany) came in 75th, and Lauren Smith (Cramlington, England) finished in 81st.
 
The Bucs return to action on October 25th as they will take part in the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate at Kiawah Island, S.C.
