O'Sullivan, Vizcarrondo lead Buccaneers to second place finish

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (Oct. 28, 2008) - Freshman Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) and junior Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) finished tied for third on the individual leaderboard, helping power the ETSU women's golf team to a second place team finish following third and final round play in the Palmetto Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Oak Point Golf Club.

Vizcarrondo and O'Sullivan both finished the event at 9-over 225, just one stroke back of co-champions Susannah Aboff  and Marlowe Boukis of Princeton. As a team, the Buccaneers looked on as Georgia State posted an impressive 297 in the cold, windy conditions to finish at 907 for the tournament, just seven strokes better than ETSU.

"I'm really proud of the way our team competed," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton, whose team finished with a championship and a second place showing in its four events of the fall season. "Mayte and Sinead played great and helped us a lot. Georgia State put together an impressive score for the conditions, but I think we're really happy with the effort we showed."

While Vizcarrondo and O'Sullivan finished with the best individual showing on the team, junior Kennie Leigh Eisenhower (Newport) and senior Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales) posted the squads best rounds of the day. Eisenhower finished with a 75, while Gould posted a 77. Gould finished tied for 12th, while Eisenhower and fellow junior Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) finished tied for 50th.

This event marks the end of the fall season for the ETSU women's golf team, which will return to action Feb. 15 at the Aztec Spring Invitational in San Diego, Calif. For more on ETSU women's golf throughout the winter months, visit ETSUBucs.com and click on the women's golf link.
