WALLACE, N.C. (April 8, 2008) - The ETSU women's golf team concluded play at the UNCW Lady Seahawk Invitational Tuesday afternoon and climbed its way up the leaderboard to tie for fifth with East Carolina at the River Landing Country Club.

The 42nd ranked Lady Buccaneers entered the final day in eighth place, but after shaving six strokes off their first round score and three more shots off the second round total, the ETSU women finished with its seventh top-5 showing of the season, carding team score of 10-over 906 for the two-day tournament.

Sophomore Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) began the morning in a nine-way tie for 27th, but after stringing together consecutive stellar rounds she moved up 18 spots to finish tied for ninth. Jansone shot a 2-over 74 in the second round and fired 1-over-par 73, ending the tournament at 8-over 224.

North Carolina State (305-300-291=896) posted 3-over in the final round for a one-stroke victory over UNC Greensboro (303-294-300=897) on the Par 72, 6,183-yard layout. Host UNCW finished third at 900 and Campbell came in fourth at 902.

UNCW's Carmen Perez-Narbon edged out Greensboro's Erica Creed in a playoff for the title. In the playoff, Narbon reached the Par 4, 368-yard first hole in regulation and sank a par putt, while Creed's approach shot sailed wide of the green and she finished with a bogey. Perez-Narbon ended with a 1-over 217 for the tournament.

Junior Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales), who led the way for the Lady Bucs after Monday's first round, tied for 13th. Gould ended eight shots back from the leader after shooting a 77-74, finishing with a final score of 225. Senior Maria Ringdahl (Oland, Sweden) tied for 25th and fellow senior Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia) tied for 30th.

ETSU now gears up for the 2008 Atlantic Sun Championship - which they will be hosting next week. First round play begins on Monday, April 14, from The Ridges Golf and Country Club.
