ETSU women's golf finishes seventh at Lady Paladin Invitational

Sunday, October 08, 2006

GREENEVILLE, S.C. (Oct. 8, 2006) - Freshman Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) posted a final round 75 to finish tied for eighth on the individual leaderboard and help lead the ETSU women's golf team to a seventh place finish in the Lady Paladin Invitational Sunday at the Furman University Golf Course.

The Buccaneers began the day in fourth place, but the team unfortunately fired its highest single round score of the tournament with a 320, ultimately finishing 24 strokes off the pace set by team champion Northwestern - which finished a commanding 12 strokes in front of second-place Memphis. The Wildcats made it a sweep thanks to Alice Kim, who finished at even par and two strokes ahead of Araceli Felgueroso from Coastal Carolina.

"We would have loved to finish higher after such a great start," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Reynolds. "But we are encouraged and pleased with the fact that we did finish ahead of Furman, as well as two Southeastern Conference schools in Mississippi State and Ole Miss."

Along with O'Sullivan, other finishes of note for the Bucs included sophomore Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales), who finished tied for 12th, while junior Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia) finished tied for 41st.

This event wrapped up the Bucs' fourth event of the fall season already, but the team will continue with a busy early season schedule when they travel to play in the Lady Pirate Invitational in Greenville, N.C., which begins on Oct. 20 Keep up with all the latest news on ETSU women's golf by visiting ETSUBucs.com.
