TEGA CAY, S.C. (March 17, 2007) - After poor weather conditions forced the cancellation of Friday's opening round at the Fifth Annual Shamrock Intercollegiate, the ETSU women's golf team combined some strong play and St. Patrick's Day luck to post its best showing of the spring season when play finally began Saturday at the Tega Cay Golf Club.

Sophomore Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales) fired a team and tournament best round of 2-over 74 to take the early lead by one stroke over Deirdre Moran of Bucknell. Meanwhile, Gould's efforts led the Lady Bucs to a second place showing in the 16-team field following the first round, and ETSU will enter Sunday's second and final round just three strokes back of team leader Elon, which posted a first round score of 323

"This was much more like it, and our players really battled out there today," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Reynolds, whose team is coming off the most successful fall campaign in school history. "After a tough start to our spring schedule, it's good to be back at the top of the leaderboard. We want to come out tomorrow and challenge for the championship, but having a strong showing is very good to see."

Along with Gould, the Lady Bucs had three other players finish in the Top 25 on the individual leaderboard. Freshman Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) finished tied for 16th, while juniors Natalio Giraldo (Cali, Colombia) and Maria Ringdahl (Oland, Sweden) ended the day tied for 18th and 24th, respectively.
