DEBARY, Fla. (April 12, 2006) - Done in by inconsistent play both in the first and third rounds, the ETSU women's golf team was unable to make up a 10-stroke deficit on the final day of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships, as Campbell rolled to a conference record seventh women's golf title Wednesday at the DeBary Golf and Country Club.

The Camels finished the final round with a team score of 923 (312-310-301), while the Lady Bucs placed second at 948 (322-310-316) in their first-ever A-Sun Championship. Campbell made it a sweep of the top honors thanks to Alejandra Shaw, who captured the individual medalist honors by four strokes over ETSU senior Ashley Barton (Seffner, Fla.). Shaw finished at 219 for the event.

"Campbell earned it and deserved it," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Reynolds, whose team finished nine strokes ahead of third place Florida Atlantic. "We just didn't have our A game this week. You need a consistent team effort to win a championship and we were missing that."

After battling back from a disappointing fifth-place finish following the first round Monday, the ETSU women entered the final round in second place thanks to a strong effort in Tuesday's second round. However, while Barton and sophomore Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia) ultimately finished with Top 5 efforts and earned A-Sun All-Tournament honors, the Lady Bucs did not get the complete team effort needed to catch the Lady Camels, who had four players finish in the top seven.

Along with Barton and Giraldo, other ETSU results included a 10th-place finish by freshman Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales), a 27th-place showing by senior Laura Diaz (Aguadilla, P.R.) and a tie for 41st by sophomore Maria Ringdahl (Oland, Sweden).

While Campbell's season will continue in the NCAA Regionals, the ETSU women's season comes to a close. Season honors from the A-Sun will be released in the coming weeks. For more on ETSU women's golf, visit ETSUBucs.com.
