BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. (March 13, 2005) - Faced with one of its most competitive fields ever, the East Tennessee State women's golf team once again put together a respective showing, defeating North Carolina - the tournament's defending champion - and finishing seventh Sunday at the Lady Gamecock Classic hosted by the University of South Carolina.

Led by a fourth-place finish by freshman Maria Ringdahl (Oland, Sweden), the Lady Bucs finished just 23 strokes back of second place at the University Club located near Columbia, S.C. New Mexico took home the team championship, while Ringdahl finished the event at 13-over-par and just five strokes back of individual champion Jenny Suh of Furman.

Along with Ringdahl, other ETSU finishes included a 32nd-place showing from junior Ashley Barton (Seffner, Fla.) and a 41st-place effort from freshman Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia).

The Lady Bucs will enjoy a three week break before returning to play on April 4 at the Lady Seahawk Invitational hosted by UNC Wilmington in Wallace, N.C.
