MYRTLE BEACH, S.C (March 4, 2011) - While inclement weather may have delayed Sunday's first round, the ETSU women's golf team was not deterred once first and second round play resumed Monday in the Barefoot at the Beach Invitational.
The Buccaneers finished tied for third on the team leaderboard, posting a two-round score of 608 (310-298) on the Davis Love Course at the Barefoot Resort. Individually, ETSU senior Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) continued her recently impressive play, finishing the day at 1-over-par 145 (71-74) and just one stroke back of individual leader Fanny Wolte of East Carolina.
ETSU is just six strokes back of second place Wisconsin, while East Carolina leads the event. The Bucs are tied with host College of Charleston for third place, while finishing the day ahead of programs such as Georgetown, Appalachian State, Marshall, Old Dominion, and Illinois State.
"I was pleased with our team's performance today, and Nina just continues to play very well," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. "Our goal for tomorrow is to make up ground on the leaders and continue to improve our scores from No. 1 to No. 5 on the team."
Along with Muehl's strong play, Bucs' freshman Larissa Steinfeldt (Eschweiler, Germany) finished 13th after carding a 7-over 151 (81-70), which included a team-best, 2-under-par 70 in the second round. Other ETSU results included a tie for 23rd by freshman Sian Evans (Gillingham, England), while junior Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) is tied for 42nd.
Third and final round play at the Par 72, 6,107-yard Davis Love Course will wrap up on Tuesday. ETSUBucs.com will provide a complete report following the day's action.
