PALOS VERDES, Calif. (Feb. 14, 2011) - Senior Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) fired a team-best round of 2-over-par 73, as the ETSU women's golf team bested its first round score by 20 strokes during second round play Tuesday at the 2011 Northrop Gruman Regional Challenge, hosted by Ohio State University at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.
As a team, the Buccaneers fired a 307, compared to the 327 they carded on Monday. The 20-stroke improvement was the best in the field with the exception of No. 21 Wake Forest's 25 stroke turnaround from Monday. ETSU now stands tied for 11th on the team leaderboard with No. 39 Denver, and the Bucs are just three strokes back of No. 30 Louisville.
UCLA currently leads the tournament by two strokes over USC, while Arizona State's Carlota Ciganda and Wake Forest's Natalie Sheary are tied for the top individual spot at 143. A total of six players will enter the third and final round Wednesday within two strokes of the lead.
As for ETSU, Muehl currently stands tied for 34th after moving up 22 spots on the individual leadeboard, while junior Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) posted a 6-over 77 to move into a tie for 46th. Freshman Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) was the third of three Buccaneers to post a score in the 70s on Tuesday, finishing at 79 and tied for 50th on the leaderboard. On Monday, only one Buccaneer player was in the 70s.
